Trauma with Blood

I am often asked,
Why it is I lose balance
And see stars,
Amongst a blackness,
At the sight of blood shed by another?

While I willingly pick,
And bite,
And pull
The skin off my fingers
Until…
I declare myself satisfied.
Until…
They bleed.

Rather than feeling faint
And squeamish,
I slurp up my blood droplets…
Into my mouth,
Onto my tongue.

Tasting
What makes….
Me.
Maybe that’s why
It doesn’t make me sick.
